Please help us to make the right decision

Dear doctor,

I am sure that you have already been confronted with the storage of umbilical cord blood stem cells in your daily work – either by a pregnant woman or by according specialised literature. Most likely, you heard different opinions due to the sometimes controversial discussion – ranging from unnecessary to absolutely advisable.

First of all the undisputed facts: umbilical cord blood can be collected without any danger for mother and child. The obtained stem cells are not laden with the ethical problems arising when using embryonic stem cells. When applied, they do not provoke any immune reaction as they are autologous material and due to their pluripotence and their young age they have enormous advantages compared to adult stem cells of a grown-up person.

It is also sure that the regenerative medicine has a promising future and that in this context stem cells will play an important role. At present, storing umbilical cord blood stem cells is the only possibility to create an own depot of pluripotent stem cells already when the child is born. There is not even the slightest risk for your child and your child is not even involved.

Moreover, already today there are many scientifically founded reasons to store these stem cells. In experiments and in some cases already clinically, diseases such as Parkinson, Alzheimer, spastic palsy with ischaemic brain damages, diabetes mellitus, parenchymal liver damages, damages of the bone marrow, the peripheral nerves, myocardial damages (by heart attacks), incontinence (urine and anal) – only to name a few – can be soothed or even fully healed. If you wish, I can send you according scientific publications. Please do not hesitate to contact me.

When the stem cells are to be stored, they have to be tested, cryo-preserved and stored, so that they are available as instant medication immediately when they are needed. The only provider who offers the storage solely according to the highest standards of the German Medical Association and des Paul Ehrlich institute, is the company eticur). The amount of quality features offered by eticur) include the identity check by HLA-comparison between the mother and the umbilical cord blood, the best possible viability guarantee by cryo-preservation simulation and following cell culture, exemption of the  diagnostic window by direct pathogen check of maternal blood and prevention from clotting by gently separating the stem cells. No other provider in Germany offers this range of services.

eticur) can offer all of this as they cooperate with the haemostaseologic and transfusion medical department of the  University Hospital Erlangen. Experienced specialist in the field of blood testing and blood processing guarantee the highest quality.

Of course, there are parents who are still sceptical as far as the storage of autologous stem cells is concerned or who do not have the financial resources for such storage. But the umbilical cord blood is too precious to be thrown away. In this case we offer a comprehensive and free donation for the public umbilical cord blood stem cell bank of the University Hospital Erlangen. Please remember that these stem cells can possibly save the life of another person.

I kindly ask you to participate in this medical progress and to support our concern. Gather information about the possibilities that these cells offer and recommend the provider who guarantees the best quality – eticur) in cooperation with the stem cell bank of the University Hospital Erlangen – and advise the parents of these children to secure this unique health care offer (or to donate for general public).

Best regards,
