After you reach your birth centre, please hand over the collection box to your doctor or midwife, so that they can take all necessary measures.

The stem cells from the umbilical cord are gained quickly and in a very easy way. It does not matter if your child is born via Caesarean section or the natural way.

Directly after the section of the cord, the doctor or midwife collects blood from that part of the umbilical cord which is still connected with the placenta, but not anymore with your baby. This procedure takes about 1-2 minutes and resembles the principle of a normal blood collection from a vein. Neither the newborn child nor the mother are feeling any discomfort. At the same time, blood is collected from the mother in order to exclude infections and to ensure the identity of both samples by HLA-comparison.
