During a private (autologous) storage, the stem cells from the umbilical cord blood of the child are guaranteed to be solely used for own purposes. It is the own child (or if the tissue characteristics match and the parents agree also for a sibling) who profits from this storage. 

The chances for treatment when using the own stem cells are so high, because the body shows no rejection reaction. A private storage has to be paid by the parents, grandparents or godparents of the child.
