Collection of umbilical cord blood and maternal blood

Immediately after birth the blood is withdrawn with a sterile needle from the clipped and severed umbilical cord. This procedure is absolutely painless for mother and child and it resembles the normal taking of a blood sample from the vein. The blood is collected in a sterile bag within 1-2 minutes. Your child will not feel anything! For additional examinations, we take another blood sample from the mother.
