Storing the precious stem cells

The cryopreservation freezers cool down minus 175° Celsius. Biological systems already stop their metabolism at minus 120° Celsius. The samples at eticur) are therefore in an absolutely safe range. .
The temperature is constantly monitored by three different warning systems. The alarm limits reach far into the safety margin.
The special construction of the containers does not allow any temperature variations (e.g. by outside influences).
The tanks are not depending on electric power supply, as the stem cell samples are stored in the gas phase above liquid nitrogen which is automatically re-filled if necessary. So even when there is an electrical power outage, this would not affect the storage.

After the separation, the material is divided into two portions and stored in two different tanks. This kind of storage has numerous advantages: If – contrary to all expectations – a tank should get damaged due to unforeseeable circumstances, the second part of the material is safely stored in the other tank.
Moreover, only half of the cells are necessary when using the material in regenerative medicine. If not all cells of the thawed portion are needed, they can be frozen again, but the other half remains untouched and is therefore completely unmarked for future use.
