Hope for the development of new therapies
Scientists found out that certain stem cells from umbilical cord blood have special characteristics: with their help, the body can replace injured tissue and dead or diseased cells. These so-called precursor cells have the ability to divide and to develop into different cell types of the body, as they are not set for a special organ or a special cell type.
Umbilical cord stem cells have a significantly better division- and transformation ability than adult stem cells. Most of all, they are not environmentally polluted or subject to aging processes and can be obtained without any risk.
In cryo-preservation freezers, umbilical cord stem cells maintain their constant high quality for many years. And as these are own cells, they are accepted by the body without any later immune reaction.
Due to their special features, umbilical cord blood stem cells are seen as the hope of tomorrow´s medicine. The child and later adult has access to his own young and healthy stem cells for all of his life. And this is the ideal basis for the best possible treatment of future illnesses.
