three storage possibilities

Standard: The private storage for the own child

eticur) PRIVAT
(private/autologous storage)

When you opt for an entirely private storage, it is guaranteed that the precious stem cells are exclusively stored  at the stem cell bank of the University Hospital Erlangen for your child. As the only provider, eticur) thereby fully adheres to the standards stipulated by the German Medical Association. These standards are applied to not-own (allogenic) donations and also routinely for the processing, testing and freezing of the stem cells of the own child. This guarantees the highest quality. As only when the strictest criteria is taken into account it is possible to produce stem cell material which can be used for the child (or if needed for a sibling) at any time without any limitations and without any further processing.

Alternatives to the exclusively private storage

Stem cells from umbilical cord blood should be stored in any case, as the precious blocks of life are far too precious to be thrown away. If parents opt to donate the umbilical cord blood stem cells of their child to a sick person when there is a demand or if they decide against an entirely private storage for their child, eticur) offers the according alternatives. As the only provider on the German market, eticur) in cooperation with the stem cell bank of the University Hospital Erlangen offers two storage possibilities:

eticur) KOMBI
(private/autologous storage with the option for a public donation)

In the name of eticur), the experts of the stem cell bank of the University Hospital Erlangen process the umbilical cord blood of the newborn in such the way prescribed for any storage in the public stem cell bank. Therefore, it is possible – if desired – to register the stored material of the child at the register of the University Hospital Erlangen. This enables to search and find suitable stem cell donors (e.g. for children suffering from leukaemia). If by accident, the necessary conformity is given and the material of the child can be used, the parents or the child (if full-aged) are informed by the University Hospital Erlangen. Then, they have two weeks to decide whether they wish to donate the stem cells to another person or to store them for the own child/oneself. If the parents/the grown-up child should donate the material, the stem cell bank of the University Hospital Erlangen takes care of the further delivery to the sick person. The parents (or the adult child) then receive the paid storage fee (plus interest rates) which has been paid to eticur). The material is therefore not on disposal for your child anymore. But if the parents wish to continue the private/autologous storage, we guarantee that the material is not touched and remains at your child´s (or its sibling´s) disposal at any time. The parents are always entitled to withdraw their agreement from the register listing.

Public donation for the stem cell bank of the University Hospital Erlangen
(public/allogenic donation for general public)

If the parents do not select eticur) PRIVAT or eticur) KOMBI , then the umbilical cord blood stem cell material can be donated to general public. With the help of eticur) it can be donated to the stem cell bank of the University Hospital Erlangen for storage. There are no costs involved for the parents. In such a case, the parents receive a specially marked collection box by the public stem cell bank of the University Hospital Erlangen by eticur). With this set, the umbilical cord blood can be collected after birth in any hospital certified by eticur). eticur) also organises the transport of the umbilical cord blood for public storage to Erlangen. If suitable, the material is listed and stored at the public stem cell bank of the  University Hospital Erlangen and in the Central bone marrow donation register Germany (ZKRD). If needed, the stem cells are handed out to a suitable patient by the University Hospital Erlangen. In such cases, the parents can not dispose of the material anymore – as they made a public donation – but probably this donation saves the life of a sick person. In any way, these precious blocks of life are far too important to be thrown out. In some cases, medical reasons may suspend a donation due to legal regulations for public donations. The main reasons for exclusion are as follows:
